How is it possible to park in some parking garages or parking lots without a ticket or barrier? The answer is automatic license plate recognition. Mobility Hub uses this clever technology to make parking as convenient and stress-free as possible.

But how exactly does it work? Here is the answer to that question.

What is behind automatic license plate recognition?

Parking management is changing—for the better! Modern technologies are increasingly replacing annoying barriers, paper parking tickets, and the good old parking disc. The core technology behind this is automatic license plate recognition.

It is also hidden behind abbreviations such as ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition) or ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). Terms such as AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification) or CPR (Car Plate Recognition) are also sometimes used. Sounds complicated? But it's not! All these terms basically refer to the same technology, which ensures seamless and uncomplicated parking. In German, we often refer to automatic number plate recognition or license plate recognition.

How does smart license plate recognition work?

The solution used by Mobility Hub is a smart technology that makes your life easier. Here's how it works:

  1. Cameras recognize license plates: When a car enters or exits a parking lot and drives into the camera's field of view, the camera recognizes that there is a license plate in its field of view and takes a photo of the license plate. Important: The driver or passengers in the car cannot be identified! Your privacy remains protected.
  2. Artificial intelligence reads the license plate number: Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to read your license plate number from the photo. It is then stored together with the exact time of your entry and exit.

The parking duration is calculated: Based on this data, the system automatically calculates how long road users have been parked. This ensures that only the actual parking time is paid for.

What else is included in digital parking with Mobility Hub?

The practical thing about digital parking is that users hardly notice anything. It is important to note that:

  • Clear signs: These inform you about data protection-compliant license plate recognition and explain the applicable parking rules.
  • A camera at the entrance and exit: this scans your license plate - and that's almost it!

The intelligent software does the rest in the background. For example, it can easily and reliably ensure that a maximum parking time is observed - without the need for a parking disk!

When ALPR is used in paid parking areas, touchscreen-controlled machines with simple menu navigation are usually also available. In most cases, it is also possible to pay for parking conveniently via smartphone. This makes parking particularly flexible and modern.

Rule violations are automatically recorded with ALPR, which leads to fair and efficient use of parking spaces. In parking lots where parkers have to buy a parking ticket immediately after entering and display it clearly in their vehicle, checks are usually only carried out sporadically. This tempts individuals to refrain from buying a parking ticket - often with no consequences. Even in free parking areas where a maximum parking time applies, which is monitored by means of parking disks, checks are not normally carried out continuously. Some people take advantage of this and park their vehicles there permanently. The digital, barrier-free system, which works with ALPR, records the license plates of all passing vehicles at the entrance and exit. Those who violate the applicable rules receive a contractual penalty. The advantage: there are always enough parking spaces available for paying parking lot users and those who adhere to maximum parking times.

Mobility Hub ensures that you always find a parking space when you go shopping

Let's take the example of a DIY store: visitors from nearby events often occupied the customer parking spaces permanently, which frustrated DIY store customers looking for a parking space. Controlling the maximum parking time with parking disks did nothing to change this.

Mobility Hub now ensures compliance with the maximum free parking time. To do this, it automatically records the license plate numbers of all cars entering and leaving the parking lot. The system checks whether the vehicles comply with the specified maximum parking time. If non-residents exceed the parking time, they receive a contractual penalty.

The result for customers: the parking lot becomes unattractive for non-customers, and actual customers find it easier to find a free parking space! This ensures a relaxed shopping and parking experience. And if a visit to the hardware store takes longer than expected, customers can easily extend their free maximum parking time at the store.

Simple, efficient, relaxed: Parking with automatic license plate recognition

With Mobility Hub and automatic license plate recognition, parking has never been easier. Drivers benefit from a solution that offers maximum convenience. No barriers, no tickets, no parking discs—just relaxed parking.
